| Meursault Charmes 1er Cru |
| Producer Domaine Latour-Giraud Region Burgundy, France Encepagement 100% Chardonnay Elevage 35-year-old vines. 40% new oak. Aged one year in barrel. Racking before bottling. Fined, not filtered. Hand bottled. Description Typically, the Meursault Charmes 1er cru is more refined, elegant and pretty. Its tremendous intensity of flavor is balanced by a softer acidity and an integrated sense of vanilla oak and lemon toast. It is wonderfully fragrant and very long and rich in the finish. Very 1er cru. Reviews for 2000 Vintage From the The Wine Advocate, Issue 138 (Dec 2001): "Points: 90-91. The floral and apricot-scented 2000 Meursault Charmes is a concentrated, vinous, medium to full-bodied wine. Satin-textured, it coats the palate with ripe pears and apples whose flavors last throughout its long finish. Anticipated maturity: now-2009." © The Wine Advocate From the International Wine Cellar (Sep/Oct 2002): "Points: 91(+?). Aromas of soft citrus fruits, hazelnut and oak char. Broad and ripe but bright, with concentrated soft citrus, pear and lime skin flavors and subtle oakiness. Already offers lovely sweetness but this is still tightly wound and firmly minerally and juicy on the back end." © International Wine Cellar Reviews for 2001 Vintage From the International Wine Cellar (Sep/Oct 2004): "Points: 89. Aromas of lemon cream and wet stone. Fat, vinous and ripe, with attractive soft citrus fruit flavors in a rather gentle style. This has good size and sweetness if not quite the verve of the Poruzots." © International Wine Cellar Reviews for 2002 Vintage From the The Wine Advocate, Issue 151 (Feb 2004): "Points: 91-93. Mouth-watering aromas of yellow plums, hazel nuts, and copious spices can be discerned in the nose of the 2002 Meursault Charmes. A packed, seamless, supply wine, it is medium-bodied, plush, and reveals dense layers of yellow fruits (including plums, peaches, and golden raisins). This velvety-textured, forward, charming (pardon the pun) wine should be drunk over the next 6 years." © The Wine Advocate Reviews for 2003 Vintage From the International Wine Cellar (Sep/Oct 2005): "Points: 89. "Medium yellow. Aromas of spiced apple, orange and apricot, with complicating notes of honey, flowers and nutty oak. Sweet and opulent, with decent shape and grip for its impressive volume. This shows more purity of fruit and flavor definition, and better balance, than the foregoing samples. Turned peachy with aeration." © International Wine Cellar |
